Dixie Dregs - Odyssey

The Dixie Dregs are an American band formed in the 1970s. Their mostly instrumental music fuses jazz, southern rock, bluegrass and classical forms in an often unique style.

Eric Gales Purple Haze

Eric Gales started playing guitar at the age of 4. His brothers Eugene and Manuel at a young age taught him many songs and licks in the style of Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, B. B. King and others.

Frank Marino - Canadian Talk Show

Frank Marino (Francesco Antonio Marino) was born in Montreal on November 20,1954. In my opinion he is one of the best guitarists of the 1970's and is often compared to Jimi Hendrix. I never thought that he copied Hendrix but he definitely put the same energy into his playing as Hendrix.

Emily Remler plays "Blues For Herb"

Emily Remler was born in New York City on September 18, 1957 (the same year I was born) and I am sad to say she died on May 4,1990 at the age of 32. I first listened to her music when I bought her album "Transitions" on vinyl sometime in the 80's. Back then you couldn't go online and listen to samples of music so I would often browse through the record stores and buy an album or two based on the info on the back of the album. Sometimes I would get a dud but I was very pleased with my selection when I picked up her album "Transitions".

Jerry Goodman - Perputuum Mobile

Jerry Goodman was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 16, 1949.  He is best known for playing in the bands "The Flock" and "Mahavishnu Orchestra".  I first heard him in Mahavishnu Orchestra and then on his solo album "It's Alive".  All of the music is great on this album.  The two tracks that stand out most in my mind are "Going on 17" and the "Theme From Perry Mason".  The best way I can think of to describe his violin playing is to think of that lead guitarist that plays those notes that make you smile and send chills through your body.  Be sure to listen to this video "Perputuum Mobile".  It is a bit short but it's really good!

Frank Gambale - Yang

Australian jazz fusion guitarist Frank Gambale was born December 22, 1958. I think you will all enjoy this performance. The unique sound of his chords is very haunting and and his lead solo is amazing.

Steve Vai - "Tender Surrender"

Steve Vai was born June 6, 1960 which means he turned 50 today.  He took guitar lessons from guitarist Joe Satriani in 1974.  I first heard of him in the early 1980's when he played with Frank Zappa.  Then on his first solo album Flex-Able which consisted of some songs that were very heavily influenced by Frank Zappa's style as well as some songs that had incredible guitar that sounded like nothing I had ever heard before. My brother knew I was looking for good music to post on my blog and suggested Tender Surrender by Steve Vai. This video is great. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks Bro!
